Bio
Hola friends!
I’m Abeja. It’s Spanish for Bee.
I started crafting my own culinary creations when I was 5 years old. Back then I was trying to follow recipes without understanding what fractions were, so you can imagine the interesting results!
My love for baking sweets evolved into a love for cooking in general and I became obsessed with chef shows on the Food Network. Entering college I no longer had time to cook and lived off of pizza, string cheese, instant ramen, PB sandwiches, sugary energy drinks, and on weekends: copious amounts of beer. Combine this malnutrition with lack of sleep, insane amounts of stress and homework, and it’s no wonder my body gave out. I was perpetually ill… Swine flu, pneumonia, mono, bronchitis. Until I was finally diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. Rather than asking me about my lifestyle and eating habits, the doctor simply said there’s no cure but all you have to do is take this pill everyday for the rest of your life and you’ll be fine.
But if that ignorant simplicity had worked for me, I wouldn’t be here today writing these words.
It’s been a long journey but I am grateful for the blessing of illness and its power to rock me off my dead end path and force me to live my life truly conscious of what I put in my body and what thoughts run through my mind. I am grateful for the plant and fungi kin-doms and their gentle yet persistent nudging me closer and closer to them. I now see that healing is so much more than the allopathic approach of “take this for that”, but is rather much more complex and requires a true desire to make big changes in order to live better.
Seven years ago, a doctor looked very confused at my bloodwork and said my Hashimoto’s was “in remission” and that “it didn’t make any sense that changing your diet would do this. But keep doing what you’re doing I guess.” It’s saddening and honestly infuriating to know that conventional medicine profits off illness and has little interest in healing. When so many people are suffering as I was, I just wish to help others take their power back from the conventional medicine complex and realize that all the answers to their healing are inside themselves.
On my path I have transformed a passion for eating delicious food, into a passion for sharing nourishment and nourishing lifestyles with others in order to improve quality of life.

Qué Más?
I have been a mostly nomadic fairy for the past ten years, having lived mostly between Ecuador, Mexico, Oregon and Florida in recent years.
I will start digging my roots down in my ancestral lands of Ecuador in 2023 stewarding land. However, my wandering and hungry soul will always desire to travel and is easily seduced by new prospects of trips. If you wish to work with me, bee in touch please, anything is possible!!
I feel most at home in tropical bodies of water and I am Level 2 certified in free diving, as well as Open Water certified in SCUBA with PADI. I have a deep deep love of the ocean and her creatures and am often daydreaming about studying Marine Biology. In the meantime, I love free diving and harvesting medicinal edible seaweeds to add to my dishes, medicines and beauty products.
My love of fungi goes deep into the mycelial web. I am currently studying Mycology online with Symbiiotica as well as Bioremediation (repairing contaminated soil and water with microbes, plants, and fungi) with Earth Activist Training. I am dreaming of ocean regeneration through bioremediating fungi!
